Magnetic Nail Polish Reviews

Sorry for the late post, but I spent the WHOLE of yesterday photographing tutorials and writing reviews with Bethdoesbeauty - so the posts should be out regularly now (every weekend) :)

I thought I would do a review on different brands of magnetic polish so you know what brand has the best effect, what brand is the worst, which is cheapest to buy etc...

I tested 6 different polishes from 5 different brands (2 came from Barry M). Because I only use 4 fingernails, I thought I would do 17's and MUA's magnetic polish as a tutorial (mixed with a little review at the end :p) link for other polishes --> Magnetic Nail Polish Tutorial

Barry M
  • Magnetic Blue
  • Magnetic Burgundy

The Saturday's by Fashionista
  • Notorious Silver

Primark Beauty
  • The bluey-silver one (don't quite know what to call it as it hasn't got a name)

First Impressions
'Magnetic Burgandy' (Barry M) looks like a nice rich metallic red. I am a bit confused as to whether Primark's one is blue or silver....I think it is slightly too blue to be called silver.
I am looking really excited to trying the Barry M ones as they have different magnets!
All the magnets are detachable from the bottle but Primark's lid looks a bit weird with out the magnet.
Primark is the cheapest to buy at only £2, Barry M is a reasonable price at £4.99 but the most expensive by far is The Saturday's version at a whopping £9 (£3 for the actual magnet and £6 for polish). £9 may not be a lot for you but if you are on a budget like me (only 15 so my pocket money needs to be spent wisely) then it is a bit steep to try as an experiment.

Application
Application. It can be kinda tricky as you need to be super fast to catch the polish while it is still wet (see the tutorial on how to get the 3D effect). But luckily it is pretty easy as the brushes small enough.
And yes, the Barry M magnets are interchangeable!

Looks and Durability
I am SO disappointed with Primark Beauty's Magnetic Polish, you could hardly see any effects! No wonder it was only £2. The Barry M ones came out ok, I could see dark patches on 'Magnetic Burgandy' where the magnet had tried to work. The best by far was The Saturday's Magnetic Polish, wow those £9 was worth it! I used the same technique for each polish and The Saturday's one was the best, I'd even go as far as saying that the magnet was too magnety (magnety? You know what I mean) leaving some nails completely dark..it was mainly the pinkie fingers and index fingers.

As for durability... they all seem to last a long time. They aren't textured or bumpy - that is just the illusion so they don't catch on anything or get worn down.

Verdicts
Barry M - 3/5 Stars
Primark Beauty - 2/5 Stars
The Saturdays by Fashionista - 4/5 Stars

Barry M - an all round good polish (yet again!) The effects aren't anything special but the price range is very reasonable so they are defiantly worth buying. However, if you are looking for the ultimate magnetic nails I would recommend buying The Saturday's one as the effects are the clearest out of this bunch! I only gave it 4 stars as they are a bit too expensive and if you take a bit of extra time, and maybe perfect your technique I recon you could get a similar result with Barry M. Last but not least we have Primark Beauty. Primark Beauty... such a disappointment! Luckily it was only £2 so I didn't waste much of my money. You could hardly see any effects compared to the other brands, but if you want to own a magnetic polish and don't think you'll use it much then go ahead and buy Primark Beauty's. As I mentioned above it is cheap and you won't be wasting you money, and it's not like it is completely useless, the effects are just much weaker than the others.
